Dr. Mans Broekgaarden is a tenured principal investigator of the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (Inserm). He obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2016, and completed his post-doc at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine, a thematic research institute of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
His research investigates innovative lipid nanomedicines for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. He currently leads the ERC Starting Grant project RADIOCONTROL, which investigates radiotherapy-responsive drug delivery (Carigga-Gutierrez et al., Adv Mater 2024). He is also the coordinator of the ARC Pancreas project PANCAPS, which investigates the mechanisms by which photodynamic therapy increases the permeability of pancreatic cancers (Obaid et al., Nat Rev Bioeng 2024).
Dr Broekgaarden is also on the Executive Council of the Controlled Release Society’s France & BeNeLux local chapter. He is a past board member of the International Photodynamic Association, a society for which he remains active.
